Day 2

We talked about the four goals of effective writing today which are

  1. Have a point and state that point in what is called a topic sentence.
  2. Support the point with details such as facts, reasons, and examples.
  3. Organize (put in a logical order) the supporting details.
  4. Write error-free sentences.
We did our first article sharing today. Thank you to all those who read an article and shared it in class. Good job. For those who did not come prepared, make a note to yourself to be ready for the next article sharing day, which will be next Thursday.

Homework for 1/22 Tuesday
  • Article Sharing summary reaction: I gave out a handout to explain this. If you lost the handout or were absent, get it here.
  • Paragraph 1. The topic of the assignment is one thing you did on Saturday 1/12 or Sunday 1/13. The first draft will be due on and it should be one paragraph of at least 150 words. Make sure to strive to achieve all four goals of effective writing in your paragraph. The first draft can be handwritten. If you type it, I will give you bonus points.
  • Langan: Do Practice 3 on pp. 92-93 and Practice on p. 94. If you need help finding subjects and verbs, go here. Also, I suggest you take a look at this youtube video. It's funny and will help you understand subjects and verbs better. All this work is to get you ready for the first Langan test, which might be as soon as next Thursday 1/24.
